The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is recommending the following precautionary measures in response to the current Swine Flu Alert.
- Get Vaccinated (Seasonal Flu and H1N1)
Please contact your primary care physician to schedule an appointment for your flu and H1N1 vaccine. If you do not have a primary care physician, please contact our EOGH Family Health Center at (973) 674-3500 to schedule an appointment.
- If you have the following: Fever >101, chills, cough, sneezing, body aches, muscle and joint pains, headaches, sometimes vomiting or diarrhea, you are advised to stay home unless you need to get expert medical care. You have to stay home 5-7 days after the fever is gone without using fever reducing medicines.
- Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water for 20 seconds or use an alcohol based hand sanitizer to clean hands.
- Cover your nose and mouth with tissues when you cough or sneeze and throw the tissue in the garbage. Also, avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth as germs are spread this way.
- Tamiflu and Relenza are the medication of choice for the swine flu (H1N1).
If you exhibit the following symptoms contact your medical physician and limit your contact with others. Symptoms - Sore throat
- Coughing
- Runny nose
- Diarrhea
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Lethargy
- Body aches
- Fever
- Loss of appetite
- Severe Headaches
